What personal data we collect and why we collect it


When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.

Mailing lists and newsletters

We use MailPoet for our newsletters via email. When you sign up for our newsletter or other emails, your email address and name is shared with MailPoet.


If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor had visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

We use Google Analytics to track visitor behaviour in order to continuously improve the website. This entails that when you browse the site and consent to the use of cookies, Google might track your (anonimized) browsing behaviour on our site.

Also WordPress itself, via Jetpack, might track you data for analytical purposes.

Who we share your data with

Data could be shared with Google, and with MailPoet when you sign up for our newsletter or other email campaigns.

We use a Facebook share widget to allow you to share our posts and images on Facebook. This widget may collect your IP address, your web browser User Agent, store and retrieve cookies on your browser, embed additional tracking, and monitor your interaction with the widget, including correlating your Facebook account with whatever action you take within the widget (such as “liking/sharing/recommending” our webpage), if you are logged in to Facebook. We use a Twitter Tweet widget on our website. As a result, our website makes requests to Twitter’s servers for you to be able to tweet our our posts and images using your Twitter account. How long we retain your data

If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This way follow-up comments are recognized and can be approved automatically and don’t need to await moderation.

For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except for their username). Website administrators can also see and edit this information.

Information sent to Google will be retained for 14 months.

Information sent to MailPoet will be retained until you decide to opt-out from the mailing list.

What rights you have over your data

If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

You can always opt-out from our email list, at any time, by clicking the link in the mail or by sending a request to to remove your address from the mailing list.
